What Private ADHD Titration Experts Want You To Learn
Private ADHD Titration

There is a national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.
Our service provides private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.
Titration
A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This includes a thorough medical history, and an assessment using the typical ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.
After More about the author will be advised whether medication is appropriate for your situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, by video link or by phone). Your physician will explain to you what medication options are available and if you decide to begin taking medication, we will suggest titrating dosage to ensure the benefits/side effects balance for you.
This process may take several weeks and requires adjusting your child's dosage slowly until the right balance is reached. It is not unusual to need to titrate two or three medicines before finding the one that is best for your child's ADHD symptoms. It's important for parents to take part in this process of titration and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior, so that they can let the doctor know if the medicine is helping or causing side effects.
If you decide to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You must attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication, which includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.
Follow-up appointments
After the evaluation is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment will usually be conducted by video conference using zoom. However, in some circumstances, it might be possible to have an audio-only consultation to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).
At this point, we will discuss any treatment options and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration program. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage and an examination of any side effects you might be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-toface sessions and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any cost of medication.
The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history and the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any relationship problems or mental health issues you might be suffering from. This is because ADHD is a genetic condition and it is important to examine any family history that may indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.
During the assessment, it is crucial that you are truthful and open with the doctor, as they will use the information you provide to determine whether you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial step in the process, because if you don't do it, it could result in an incorrect diagnosis, and thus an incorrect prescribing of medication.
If you've decided that you would like to be treated for your ADHD, we will then arrange a follow up appointment with one of our psychiatrists that specialize in this field. This can be scheduled at the time of your diagnosis if you are keen to begin treatment right away, or within two weeks if would like more time to consider the implications of your diagnosis and the alternatives that are available to you.
If you're not sure which one you prefer We suggest you speak to your GP prior to booking your private examination as some providers have different rules regarding whether they require a GP referral letter or not. We also advise to check if your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement which means that once you are discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the prescription for the medication.
Medication
For many people who seek an official diagnosis of ADHD medication is a key aspect of their journey. It isn't always easy to obtain a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long, and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.
One method to avoid this is to ask your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means that you can select one that provides a private assessment and titration service. This can reduce your wait time significantly and is more convenient when you are working and have a hectic schedule.
After you have been recommended, your physician will assess you to determine if you require medication adjustment. You will be asked to fill in forms that differ by doctor but the most common ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood and adulthood. They will help your physician identify any conditions that could mean you shouldn't take ADHD medication if prescribed.
If you are titrated on medication, it is likely to include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be thoroughly assessed and monitored to determine the best combination for you. The titration procedure can be lengthy and may require several extra appointments before the dose becomes stable.
The frequency of your follow-up appointments is contingent on the type and amount of medication you are taking. They could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. The appointment will involve your doctor checking that you are stable on the medication, recording any side effects you have had and making any adjustments needed to ensure you are in a safe dosage. You are required to attend an annual review as well as a regular health check-up that includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.
For some people it could be that they are content with their medication and don't need an additional discussion regarding their titration. If you're required to discuss your titration or treatment plan further it is likely that you will be referred back to the private doctor who performed your initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in their consultation fee, and they will receive their medication via a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This can cost more than an NHS prescription as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
